Washington, DC. March 2, 2018 – The NBMTM is undertaking a large research study to evaluate a scenario-based oral examination and how it might be incorporated into the Maintenance of Certification program.
What is a scenario-based oral examination?
A scenario-based oral examination is designed to objectively evaluate a pharmacist’s knowledge, abilities, and critical thinking skills to certify pharmacists based on proficiency and clinical excellence.
This format allows for testing for a large amount of material in a relatively short period of time. This allows for questions to be graded objectively based on pre-determined desired responses.
What are the benefits of a scenario-based oral examination?
- It is the most fair, reliable and valid testing methodology
- It equally tests knowledge, skills, and critical thinking abilities in four core performance areas/domains
- It demonstrates clinical proficiency in objective manner
