Foreign pharmacists licensed in a country outside of the United States may be eligible to apply if they have satisfied the training and experience requirements.

Board Eligibility is necessary to participate in the certification process and sit for the NBMTM certification examination. A candidate must meet all the following requirements:

A. The candidate must hold a pharmacy degree from an accredited school of pharmacy. Foreign Graduate Pharmacists must hold an equivalent degree to the requirements of a U.S. pharmacy degree such as a Bachelor’s degree (BPharm), Master’s degree in Pharmacy Practice (MPharm), or Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD).

B. The candidate must hold a valid, unexpired, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy.

C. The candidate must complete two (2) years of practice experience, post-licensure, with experience in medication therapy in retail pharmacy, community pharmacy, or ambulatory care pharmacy.
Experience can be waived if the applicant successfully completes an NBMTM-approved training program in medication therapy management. Approved training programs are:

  1. APhA’s Delivering Medication Therapy Management Services Certificate Training Program.
  2. Power-Pak C.E.® Certificate Program in Medication Therapy Management.
  3. University of Florida’s graduate certificate in Comprehensive Medication Management (CMM).
  4. University of Florida’s Master’s degree in Medication Therapy Management.
  5. University of Southern California’s Advanced Practice Pharmacist Certificate in Comprehensive Medication Management.
  6. Residency in medication therapy management or ambulatory care pharmacy (PGY-1 or PGY-2).

D. Agree to abide by the Code of Ethical and Professional Conduct.

E. Completion and filing of an online application for the BCMTMS examination, including copies of the candidate’s current license and other supporting documents.

F. Payment of required application fees.

If you practice pharmacy in Australia, Canada, Egypt, India, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, or United of Arab Emirates,  you may be board eligible. The following information details specific requirements for each country.

Australia

You may apply to take the BCMTMS Examination if you meet the following requirements:

  • You must hold ONE of the following degrees from a pharmacy school accredited by the Australian Pharmacy Council (APC).
    • Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD)
    • Master of Pharmacy Practice (MPharm)
    • Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm)
    • Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacy (PhD)
  • You are currently registered with the Pharmacy Board of Australia (PBA) and submit ONE of the following documents:
    • Pharmacist Registration Certificate.
    • Certificate of Registration Status (CoRS)
  • You must complete two (2) years of practice experience, post-licensure, with experience in medication therapy management (MTM) or medicine utilization review (MUR). Experience can be waived if the applicant successfully completes an NBMTM-approved training program in medication therapy management. Approved training programs are:
    1. APhA’s Delivering Medication Therapy Management Services Certificate Training Program.
    2. Power-Pak C.E.® Certificate Program in Medication Therapy Management.
    3. University of Florida’s graduate certificate in Comprehensive Medication Management (CMM).
    4. University of Florida’s Master’s degree in Medication Therapy Management.
    5. Residency in medication therapy management or ambulatory care pharmacy (PGY-1 or PGY-2).

Canada

You may apply to take the BCMTMS Examination if you meet the following requirements:

  • You must hold ONE of the following degrees from a pharmacy school accredited by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP).
    • Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD)
    • Master of Pharmacy Practice (MPharm)
    • Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm)
    • Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacy (PhD)
  • You are currently registered with your provincial pharmacy regulatory body and submit ONE of the following documents:
    • Certificate of Registration.
    • Letter of Good Standing
  • You must complete two (2) years of practice experience, post-licensure, with experience in medication therapy management (MTM) or medicine utilization review (MUR). Experience can be waived if the applicant successfully completes an NBMTM-approved training program in medication therapy management. Approved training programs are:
    1. APhA’s Delivering Medication Therapy Management Services Certificate Training Program.
    2. Power-Pak C.E.® Certificate Program in Medication Therapy Management.
    3. University of Florida’s graduate certificate in Comprehensive Medication Management (CMM).
    4. University of Florida’s Master’s degree in Medication Therapy Management.
    5. Residency in medication therapy management or ambulatory care pharmacy (PGY-1 or PGY-2).

Egypt

You may apply to take the BCMTMS Examination if you meet the following requirements:

  • You must hold ONE of the following degrees from a pharmacy school accredited by the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education (NAQAAE).
    • Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD)
    • Master of Pharmacy Practice (MPharm)
    • Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm)
    • Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacy (PhD)
  • You are currently registered with the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) and submit ONE of the following documents:
    • Pharmacist Registration Certificate.
    • Pharmacist Card
  • You must complete two (2) years of practice experience, post-licensure, with experience in medication therapy management (MTM) or medicine utilization review (MUR). Experience can be waived if the applicant successfully completes an NBMTM-approved training program in medication therapy management. Approved training programs are:
    1. APhA’s Delivering Medication Therapy Management Services Certificate Training Program.
    2. Power-Pak C.E.® Certificate Program in Medication Therapy Management.
    3. University of Florida’s graduate certificate in Comprehensive Medication Management (CMM).
    4. University of Florida’s Master’s degree in Medication Therapy Management.
    5. Residency in medication therapy management or ambulatory care pharmacy (PGY-1 or PGY-2).

India

You may apply to take the BCMTMS Examination if you meet the following requirements:

  • You must hold ONE of the following degrees from a pharmacy school accredited by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).
    • Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD)
    • Master’s degree in Pharmacy Practice (MPharm)
    • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (BPharm)
    • Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacy (PhD)
  • You are currently registered in your state pharmacy council and submit ONE of the following documents:
    • Pharmacist Registration Certificate.
    • Good Standing Certificate
  • You must complete two (2) years of practice experience, post-licensure, with experience in medication therapy management (MTM) or medicine utilization review (MUR). Experience can be waived if the applicant successfully completes an NBMTM-approved training program in medication therapy management. Approved training programs are:
    1. APhA’s Delivering Medication Therapy Management Services Certificate Training Program.
    2. Power-Pak C.E.® Certificate Program in Medication Therapy Management.
    3. University of Florida’s graduate certificate in Comprehensive Medication Management (CMM).
    4. University of Florida’s Master’s degree in Medication Therapy Management.
    5. Residency in medication therapy management or ambulatory care pharmacy (PGY-1 or PGY-2).
  • Notes: Diploma of Pharmacy (DPharm) holders are ineligible to sit for the BCMTMS examination. You must hold one of the above pharmacy degrees to be board eligible.

Jordan

You may apply to take the BCMTMS Examination if you meet the following requirements:

  • You must hold ONE of the following degrees from a pharmacy school accredited by the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Institutions
    (AQACHEI).

    • Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD)
    • Master of Pharmacy Practice (MPharm)
    • Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm)
    • Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacy (PhD)
  • You are currently registered in your state pharmacy council and submit ONE of the following documents:
    • Pharmacist Registration Certificate.
    • Good Standing Certificate
  • You must complete two (2) years of practice experience, post-licensure, with experience in medication therapy management (MTM) or medicine utilization review (MUR). Experience can be waived if the applicant successfully completes an NBMTM-approved training program in medication therapy management. Approved training programs are:
    1. APhA’s Delivering Medication Therapy Management Services Certificate Training Program.
    2. Power-Pak C.E.® Certificate Program in Medication Therapy Management.
    3. University of Florida’s graduate certificate in Comprehensive Medication Management (CMM).
    4. University of Florida’s Master’s degree in Medication Therapy Management.
    5. Residency in medication therapy management or ambulatory care pharmacy (PGY-1 or PGY-2).

Saudi Arabia

You may apply to take the BCMTMS Examination if you meet the following requirements:

  • You must hold ONE of the following degrees from a pharmacy school accredited by the National Commission for Academic Accreditation and Assessment (NCAAA).
    • Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD)
    • Master of Pharmacy Practice (MPharm)
    • Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm)
    • Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacy (PhD)
  • You are currently registered in your state pharmacy council and submit ONE of the following documents:
    • Pharmacist Registration Certificate.
    • Good Standing Certificate
  • You must complete two (2) years of practice experience, post-licensure, with experience in medication therapy management (MTM) or medicine utilization review (MUR). Experience can be waived if the applicant successfully completes an NBMTM-approved training program in medication therapy management. Approved training programs are:
    1. APhA’s Delivering Medication Therapy Management Services Certificate Training Program.
    2. Power-Pak C.E.® Certificate Program in Medication Therapy Management.
    3. University of Florida’s graduate certificate in Comprehensive Medication Management (CMM).

United of Arab Emirates

You may apply to take the BCMTMS Examination if you meet the following requirements:

  • You must hold ONE of the following degrees from a pharmacy school accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) of United Arab Emirates.
    • Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD)
    • Master of Pharmacy Practice (MPharm)
    • Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm)
    • Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacy (PhD)
  • You are currently registered in your state pharmacy council and submit ONE of the following documents:
    • Pharmacist Registration Certificate.
    • Good Standing Certificate
  • You must complete two (2) years of practice experience, post-licensure, with experience in medication therapy management (MTM) or medicine utilization review (MUR). Experience can be waived if the applicant successfully completes an NBMTM-approved training program in medication therapy management. Approved training programs are:
